General Course Overview:
This course will discuss concepts, methodologies, and theory of:

  • bathymetric systems
  • systems installation
  • sensor linear and angular offsets
  • relationships of sensor to vessel center of rotation
  • localizing water surface
  • sound speed measurements for sonar refraction corrections
  • GNSS corrections
  • GNSS/INS alignment calibrations
  • multibeam alignment calibrations (aka patch test)
  • accuracy validation process
  • precision & bias measurement process
  • continual checks required throughout a bathymetric survey
The above is a heavily condensed version of our 40-hour training program.  However, it will offer the students a review or introduction to critical elements required of a high-resolution bathymetric single and multibeam survey.

PDH's
This course qualifies for 4 Professional Development Hours (PDH's). Certificates will be issued via email upon request.

Who Should Attend?
This program brings practical process-oriented training for those that need to validate or contractually appreciate bathymetric survey data accuracy and precision and how this jives with survey specifications.

About the Instructor:

The Bathymetric Mapping course will be presented by Mike Mutschler. Mike has a background in Geomatics Engineering and has had roles in cadastral land surveying, establishments of control networks,  bathymetric mapping in over 30 countries and throughout the USA, Mr. Mutschler runs a small consulting and training company from Portland, Oregon serving North American mapping agencies and businesses.

Registration:
This course is being offered by WEDA as part of our mission to share knowledge and information about dredging. Because WEDA is a non-profit organization, with its goal not to make money but to share information, WEDA is offering this course at a low cost of $150.

The course registration is located on the Dredging Summit & Expo registration page. The course can be added to your registration or purchased separately. Dredging Summit & Expo registration is not mandatory to participate in the course.

All participants: $150
