Letter to the editor
I had to wait a few days before I wrote this, because if I wrote it as soon as I read Lairds cheap shot at Pat Campbell, my words would have set the letters to the editor page on fire.
How dare John Laird, use his bloody pulpit to smear, Pat Campbell who in my opinion is a gentleman, a knowledgeable member of the council and a true representative of the people. He is also unafraid to ask question and does not appear to be intimidated by Hiz Honor.
The only thing Laird said right in his Sunday Column was “He apologized for the crude comments of long time Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard. The operative word being CRUDE. (Some of us think he has been too long a Vancouver Mayor”).
In his short time on the Vancouver City Council, Pat Campbell is more knowledgeable, more articulate and a better statesman than some of the long time bobble heads we currently see nodding in agreement with whatever Hiz Honor says. Others should emulate Pat Campbell and Jeanne Stewart, who are the only two council members who appear to do their homework, ask lots of question and keep us taxpayers in the loop..
And God Knows, Hiz Honor needs some-one to apologize for him. Breaking Portland Cups, Scolding Council Members Campbell & Stewart in public, ( he must have forgotten his Military manners, Scold in private and praise in public) being rude and indifferent to those who disagree with him at public hearings and citizens comments are but a few of the areas where apologizes are needed. Publicly scolding Portland Politicians who are taking us to the cleaners in the Light Rail negotiations (We will pay the lions share of the light rail cost, probably lose Pearson airpark and be required to bow to all other Portland demands, No Bridge without light rail) are thing that I would associate with a rookie politician.
Councilman Campbell may be a rookie Council member, but come the end of 2008 he will in the eyes of many followers of the Vancouver City Council, be named the “ROOKIE OF THE 2008 YEAR”!!!!!
Hmmm, I wonder if the Columbian has a Woodshed?
